A.P. Government & Politics ( 3 TC3 Credits)
AP Government and Politics is an in-depth look into the inner workings of the United States federal government. We examine the three branches of government, the bureaucracy, linkage institutions, public policy, campaigning, current events, and all things relating to the national government.
Students should have a strong recommendation from their American History teachers and have shown aptitude and interest in social studies. This class is for mature and motivated students; students are expected to complete assigned readings and take diligent notes and generate discussion questions for class. Class formats vary from lecture to roundtable Socratic Seminar discussions led by students. Students will learn to improve their writing and argumentative skills in an effort to create well-rounded and college-ready individuals.
This course meets every other day for the duration of the school year and satisfies the government portion of required social studies classes for seniors with half a credit being awarded.
Students can earn 3 TC3 concurrent enrollment credits by earning a “C” or higher in class and are also highly encouraged to take the AP examination in early May for the chance to earn 3 additional college credits by earning a score of 3 or higher.
